We wanted to let you know that we have continued receiving checks and online donations over the past month and have a new total to release to all of you.

As of April 24, we have raised:

$142,070.43-- Isn't that incredible?!

Each of your contributions are why we exceeded our lofty goal of $130,000 by $12,070.43 (and always counting!). Our success seriously would not have been possible without you.

Thank you participants, volunteers, donors, corporate sponsors, team champions, faculty, staff, and everyone else who had a hand in the successs of Wake 'N Shake 2013.

Josh Rominger: A Wake 'N Shake Hero

A Wake 'N Shake hero earned his wings to heaven this morning. It is with the deepest sadness and sorrow to announce the death of our friend and Team Champion '12, Josh Rominger. Josh is one of the strongest people we know. A true warrior. In the words of his mother, "He was given his wings to fly where he will never feel pain again, can run and walk and most importantly be with his God who he loved so much". And we know he will fly fast into the love and care of our Creator. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We love you Josh!

Wake 'N Shake 2013 By The Numbers

Wake 'N Shake was a great success, a special motivation, and a wonderful memory for many students. Over 1300 students participated throughout the day,and we had nearly 400 students on their feet for 12 hours. The dancing, game playing, group singing, team competitions, cancer survivor testimonies, pep talks from Coach Grobe and Provost Kersh and much more kept us going strong until 12 midnight. The closing ceremony was a fun and powerful experience for all who stayed until the end. And one of the many miracles from Wake 'N Shake was that over $125,700 was raised for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund to find a cure for this terrible disease. Here are some numbers that we are particularily proud of:

-$125,722.57 and counting raised

-382 people watched our Google+ Hangout of the dance marathon LIVE

-308 people texted PIC to 80077 which generated $3,080 in donations.

-1300 participants

-358 12-hour participants

Brian Piccolo Check Presentation

What a great day this past Saturday was for the larger family of Wake Forest and the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund Drive. The big check of $210,390 from the students to the Cancer Center to find a cure for this terrible disease is a most remarkable and worthy achievement. This is almost double the fundraising efforts from 2011. The success is a result of the combined efforts of Wake 'N Shake, Hit the Bricks, the Chi Omega Auction, Pump up for Piccolo, Rush for the Cure and other small contributions.

Wake 'N Shake Dance Marathon contributed over half of the $210K raised in 2012. Wake 'N Shake 2013 has set out to raise $130,000 this year through the combined effort from $1,300+ dancers. Help us reach our goal by
signing up with us.

Pictured are: Dr. Nathan Hatch, Dr. John McConnell (CEO of the WF Medical Center), Cathy Pace (Chair of Regional Board of Cancer Center), Mrs. Hearn, and Brian Piccolo Cancer Drive student-leaders, John Allen Riggins, Clare Rizer, Aline Souza, Deven Griffin, Kate Cummings, Lucas Swenson, Emily Burniston & Laura Trollinger.

Video Debut & Benefit Concert to be Held in Honor of Coach Heather Holmes

As we look ahead towards the coming weeks, we take a moment to reflect on those who have inspired us to join the fight. Wake 'N Shake 2013 remembers the individuals we currently support, those we will support in the future and those we will forever honor in the fight against cancer.

This Wednesday, February 20th, Wake 'N Shake will be hosting a Benefit Concert Fundraiser in honor of former head volleyball coach Heather Kahl Holmes. Coach Holmes was diagnosed with breast cancer in May. She never missed a practice or game during the fall season, although she was going through chemotherapy all the while. Coach Holmes will be joining us for this special event which will be held in the Magnolia Room at Wake Forest University from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Chi Rho, Demon Divas, Innuendo, Minor Variation & Plead the Fifth, five Wake Forest a capella groups, will be performing at the event.

As a fundraiser dedicated to supporting those close to the Wake Forest community, Wake 'N Shake 2013 will be making a special donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in honor of Coach Holmes.

Keep on dancing & keep on fighting - it's time to tackle cancer!

We hope you will partner with us in the coming weeks and encourage those around you to partner with us. Registration opens February 20, 2013!
